AP TWO-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN

This is an Advanced Placement Photography class.  See Mrs. Cutts for details.  SEE YOUR COUNSELOR TO ENROLL!

July 1, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

As we are more than halfway into summer break, I want to extend my thanks to the Alta Loma community and wish you a restful and enjoyable summer.  Soon enough, Alta Loma High School will reopen for the 2015-2016 school year.  This coming year promises to be another historic one as we dedicate new athletic fields, a new pool and stadium, and new common student areas in the center of campus.  This year, the Class of 2016 will be the first to graduate on the Alta Loma High School campus!

We look forward to welcoming our incoming freshmen, the class of 2019, and all students on Wednesday, August 5th.  Expect to see a grand presence of students from band, ASB, Renaissance, Cheer, Link Crew, and more out in front of the school as we kick off the school year and welcome our Braves to Alta Loma High.

Students will begin to report the last week of July for registration and schedule pick up.  See the schedule below for exact times, dates, and locations.

For parents who have freshmen who will attend Alta Loma, we invite you to attend the Parent Power 101 workshops on the designated days in the Auditorium at 8:15 a.m.  This presentation will cover the high school experience and focus on how to help your student become academically successful in high school and beyond.  Alta Loma is proud of its Link Crew and Brave Academy programs.  These are powerful programs that provide year-round guidance, mentorship, and a positive transitional experience for all freshmen.

Look for your summer mailer through the US postal service to arrive no later than July 13 .  Please read all the documents enclosed, and please make sure that all the forms in the registration packet are completed and bring them to turn in on registration/schedule pick up day.  Also, please consider joining Alta Loma’s PTSA.  This organization supports students and faculty and appreciates your membership.  The form and payment, included in your summer packet, may also be returned on the registration days.  On these days, students may also purchase their PE clothes and ASB packages.  Check this mailer for more information.

Again, our first day of school is Wednesday, August 5th.  Our school day will begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 2:55 p.m.  Class locator lists will be posted in the quad, and the staff will be ready to help students with directions and other needs.  I will be communicating with families via automated phone calls throughout the rest of the summer and in the first weeks to keep you informed about important school events.  You may also check our websites for more information at http://alhs-cjuhsd-ca.schoolloop.com/  AND www.altalomahigh.com.

Finally, we will continue to offer a robust schedule of classes that meets the needs of students.  We are pleased to announce that approximately 60% of our 2015 graduates met their A-G requirements.  This is the highest percentage of students to meet that benchmark in the school’s history.  It is a testament to our District’s and community’s continuing emphasis on rigorous education, and it is consistent with our school’s vision: "Alta Loma High School will continue to improve classroom instruction, provide support and interventions for all students, prepare students for the demands of the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, and increase college and career readiness.”

Finally, in an on-going effort to offer relevant courses for students, we are pleased to announce we will be offering more sections of Physics (college prep and honors) as well as AP Statistics and AP Two-Dimensional Design..   If you are interested, please email me directly as soon as possible.

I look forward to a productive school year.  It is always our goal to provide a quality education to our students in a supportive and safe environment.  I appreciate the staff we have -- our teachers, counselors, office staff, grounds custodial, and others –- who assist everyday to maintain a healthy, positive environment for our students.

I look forward to seeing all of you on August 5th as we begin a new school year.  As always, please feel free to contact me with your questions or concerns, and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Go Braves!
