The staff of the Alta Loma Llibrary provide students with the resources they will need to excel in their courses. Whether it be checking out books, using the internet, or using quiet study space, the library provides students with a better opportunity to learn. The library provides various collections for students and staff. In addition to nearly 9,000 recently acquired new library books, the library houses computers for Internet researching, for word processing, and database creation. We also offer teachers over 500 videotapes, several audiotapes, a laminator, an Ellison Lettering Machine and various forms of audio-visual equipment to use in their classrooms. Please sign-up to use these tools and materials.
CLASS VISITS
The Teacher Librarian welcomes other teachers to bring their classes to the library to collaborate on meaningful, resource-based units of instruction. Library materials may also be checked out to you to use in your classrooms for a limited period of time. Please sign-up at least three to four days ahead of time in order to avoid conflict or disappointment. Class visits may not be scheduled when the regular teacher is to be absent. (Because of our two lunch schedule, classes might be scheduled during 4th period, as a result, we might be open to class visit only during lunch.)
STUDENT VISITS
Teachers may send up to six students during class time to use library resources for completion of course assignments. Please make sure that each student has something specific to accomplish and they come with a teacher-signed pass.
MAKE-UP TESTS/STUDY HALL
Sorry, we are unable to monitor tests, or to serve as a study hall for sixth period athletics.
ORIENTATION
Instruction in the uses of the library will be scheduled with the English Teachers. Three days of instruction/activities will be provided to each freshmen class. This usually takes place in October. The library staff is happy to brief other students on library skills on an individual basis.
EXHIBITS
the library encourages teachers to display their students' projects. Please reserve a time with the
Teacher Librarian.
PREVIEW MATERIALS
if you wish to preview instructional materials, e.g. videos, textbooks, teacher resource materials, professional materials, please inform a library staff member, so that these materials can be properly obtained through the library. (District Policy) If materials are obtained in any other way, the teacher or department who ordered will be responsible for payment.
TEXTBOOK DISTRIBUTION
Teachers schedule and accompany students to the library for the distribution/collection of textbooks. Students must have a current I.D. card in order to check out textbooks. Because many students do not have I.D. the first two weeks of school, we will accept a class schedule during that time. After the first two weeks of school we will only accept the current Alta Loma High School identification card. The first card is complimentary, if lost or destroyed; a $5.00 replacement charge will be issued when you request a duplicate at the guidance office.
Students with a record of charges or past due textbooks will not be issued further textbooks until charges are cleared or a payment agreement contract is signed by the student and the student's parent.
Class sets of textbooks will be issued only when necessary or upon approval of the textbook technician.
COMPUTER USE
Students must have a current I.D. card and agree to the district technology use agreement. Students must log on under the Chaffey domain by entering both their district and ALHS numbers. These numbers are found on student schedules given at the beginning of each school semester. It is the student’s responsibility to keep these numbers in a secure place. There is a .25 cent charge to print out extra schedules.
ALSO:
We have acquired thousands of new reference, non-fiction, and fiction titles over the last four years due to the California Public School Library Grant . All research assignments require our students to use both print (books) and non-print (online) sources of information.
